Working Sense

Supporting people access the world of work.
Providing specialist support Working Sense enables beneficiaries to enter/re-enter and sustain employment, or move closer towards employment using a holistic one-to-one approach utilising our designated project staff.
We work specifically with people over 25 with a sensory loss (i.e. people who are D / deaf or have hearing loss and people who are blind or have vision loss) or disability, living in Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire. This project is funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
How does Working Sense support people?
We support each beneficiary according to their needs, building their confidence through wellbeing support. Disabled people, those with sensory loss and mental health issues find it especially hard to promote their abilities. Our employment specialists therefore take the time to identify these and key skills, help find suitable training, build their CV and prepare for interviews. Working Sense also provide mock interviews, transport training and a range of practical support tailored to the individual.
Who we support
To be eligible to work with Working Sense, beneficiaries must:
Be over the age of 25
Disability or health condition impacting your ability to work
Live in Conwy, Denbighshire or Flintshire
Be economically inactive (e.g. not in employment)
If you work with or support someone who can benefit from the project or you are an employer, then Working Sense can help you as well.
Why is there a need for Working Sense?
People with a sensory loss, and people with disabilities face significant barriers to work. For example, a recent survey of employers revealed that 75% of respondents would sooner employ an ex-convict than a person with vision loss.
A person who is Deaf or has hearing loss is 4 times more likely to be out of work.
Blind or partially sighted are 5 times to be unemployed for 5+ years.
Disabled people are twice as likely to face redundancy.
“Working Sense has helped me believe in myself and has given me confidence.”
