What is Working Sense

Working Sense will be working specifically with people over 25 with a sensory loss (i.e. people who are D/deaf or have hearing loss and people who are blind or have vision loss) or disability, living in Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire. This project is funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.

Providing specialist support to enable the target group to enter/re-enter and sustain employment, or move closer towards employment using a holistic one-to-one approach utilising our designated project staff.

How does Working Sense support people?

With a range of interventions tailored to the needs and circumstances of the individual, such as confidence building, vocational skills, practical help such as CV writing, mock interviews, transport training and benefits, as well as a specific outcomes for those exiting programme could be:

Why is there a need for Working Sense?

People with a sensory loss, and people with disabilities face significant barriers to work. For example, a recent survey of employers revealed that 75% of respondents would sooner employ an ex-convict than a person with vision loss. 

A person who is Deaf or has hearing loss is X4 more likely to be out of work

A general term for the partial or total loss of one or more of the senses, including sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and spatial awareness

blind or partially sighted are X5 to be unemployed for 5+ years

British Sign Language. It has been a recognised language since 2019.

Disabled people are twice as likely to face redundancy
