Introduction to Sign Language – Accredited

Agored Level 1 – 3 credits

20 Hours over 10 weeks

This accredited course covers a range of topics including basic fingerspelling, meet and greet phrases, questions signs, numbers (including money, age and time), basic emotions and an introduction to Deaf culture.

Three Hour BSL Taster Session

This taster session gives participants an opportunity to develop their fingerspelling skills, and learn the basic meet and greet vocabulary in British Sign Language. The topics covered include question signs and basic numbers, providing the students with the skills to hold a basic conversation in BSL

One Hour Deaf Awareness Course

Our one hour session is tailored to raise awareness amongst frontline staff and provide them; with the confidence to identify people with a hearing loss, develop effective communication strategies and knowledge of how and when to book appropriate communication support.

Our most popular Deaf Awareness Course enables participants to understand the barriers a person with a hearing loss may face on a daily basis along with strategies that professionals can use to assist them to overcome these barriers including using a range of effective communication techniques.

Three Hour Deaf Awareness and BSL Taster Course

Our 3hr combination course covers Deaf Awareness on a more in-depth basis, discovering deaf culture and practical skills for effective engagement and communication. During this session the students will learn basic signs such as the alphabet and fingerspelling, numbers, greetings and signs that are specific to their day to day duties.
